What Your Google Business Profile Now Collects — and How to Clean It Up

Local businesses got clearer visibility into data gathered from Google’s automated chats and messages, plus AI-assisted review reply drafts. What owners should review this month.

If you answer the shop phone, you already know Google can call or text that number. What changed for many owners is not the outreach itself — it is a clearer place to see what was recorded and delete outdated pieces. In mid-September 2026, Google Business Profile’s public channel and search trade press pointed owners to a Collected info tab inside the dashboard. Separately, Google’s Gemini app path can help eligible owners draft review replies — with limits that matter as much as the drafts.

This is a control-and-cleanup piece for local operators (ג): keep what Google recorded aligned with what you actually offer, and edit the live fields when they do not. It is also a keep-up piece (ד): peers who open Collected info monthly will catch bad hours and invented services before customers do. It is not a promise about rankings.

The product moment: Collected info in the dashboard

On September 14, 2026, Search Engine Land reported that Google announced Collected info as live in the Business Profile dashboard. The coverage quotes Google Business Profile’s message: owners can review details verified by Google’s automated assistant, open the Collected info tab, see what was gathered, and delete outdated details. Dashboard copy described in that piece says the info was collected in phone or chat conversations with the business and is used to match the business with customers looking for similar services.

Search Engine Roundtable had shown earlier rollout visuals and later embedded the same September 14 confirmation. Treat mid-September as the “check your dashboard now” moment; Help text had been building toward it for months.

What Google’s Help says you can do

Google’s Edit your Business Profile help is the authoritative checklist:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile → Collected info.
  3. Review each item for accuracy. Help says you can see the source and the date it was collected, and that text appears in the language it was originally given.
  4. Delete entries you do not want kept in those records.

Important limits from the same Help page:

  • The feature is available for select regions, languages, and business categories and may not appear for every user.
  • Tip in Help: deleting collected information removes it from Google’s records but does not change other details already on your Business Profile.

That second bullet is the operational gotcha. If an automated conversation produced a wrong “we close at 6” note, and your live hours now show 6, deleting the Collected info row is step one. Editing hours on the profile is step two. Owners who only delete the note leave the wrong hours in front of customers.

Four-step diagram: open Collected info, review source and date, delete bad records, then edit live profile fields. Delete alone does not fix the listing.

How the information got there

Google’s About automated calls and texts help explains the outreach channel. Google may use automated calls or texts to the phone number on your Business Profile to confirm details or to help with customer inquiries. Help stresses Google will not ask for payment, credit card information, or passwords — a useful staff briefing line for whoever picks up the phone.

Help also notes that information you provide — including, in some cases, photos and posts — may be added to the profile subject to content policies, and that some updates can sit in a pending review state (Help mentions up to five business days). There is a path for Google to post updates on your behalf based on what you said in those conversations, with an email notification so you can review or remove the post.

If you do not want the outreach at all, Help documents opt-outs under More → Business Profile settings → Advanced settings, including toggles for bookings/inquiries from customers, keeping the profile up to date, and posting on your behalf. Text/WhatsApp threads can be stopped with the documented STOP-style commands in your language.

None of that is legal advice. It is product hygiene: know what the phone is signing your listing up for.

Companion hygiene: hours, services, and who answers

Collected info does not remove the need for a monthly profile pass. It gives you a dated ledger of what Google’s systems recorded from those conversations — so you are not guessing why an attribute flipped.

Automated collection speeds updates when the person who answered knew the answer. It also speeds wrong updates when a temp guessed, a contractor answered “yes” to a service you do not offer, or a noisy line garbled a detail.

Three companion habits matter as much as the delete button:

  1. Hours and services on the live listing must match what you actually do — delete alone will not fix them.
  2. Whoever answers the verified number needs a one-line brief: Google may call or text; do not invent services; route verification calls to an owner when unsure.
  3. Re-check the public Maps/Search card as a customer would after you edit.

AI-assisted review replies: a separate path (with gates)

The preview’s second half — AI-assisted review reply drafts — is not the same as the Collected info tab. Google’s Help for managing a Business Profile with the Gemini web app says that when you connect Google Business Profile to Gemini Apps, Gemini can help you update profile details, draft or delete replies to reviews, create and manage posts, summarize feedback themes, and pull performance insights and search keywords.

Eligibility is narrow. Per that Help page, you must:

  • Be an owner or manager of only one verified Business Profile.
  • Be 18 or over.
  • Sign in to the Gemini web app with a personal Google Account associated with that profile (not a work or school account, for now).
  • Have Keep Activity on.
  • Use the Gemini web app (gemini.google.com). Help also states the experience is not available in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, lists supported languages, and notes gradual release.

Google’s June 10, 2026 product blog framed the same idea for small businesses: connect the profile, ask for help responding to a latest review, update hours, and use Business notebooks for proactive nudges — with the EEA/UK exclusion footnoted.

Secondary coverage such as The SMB Hub’s 2026 note usefully warns against assuming a universal “auto-reply” button on the classic Business Profile review screen. Prefer Help: drafts live in the Gemini connection path for eligible accounts.

Five eligibility gates for Gemini with Google Business Profile: one verified profile, personal account, Keep Activity on, Gemini web app, and not available in the EEA or UK.

If you are multi-location, on a work Google Account, or in an excluded region, keep the manual reply workflow. AI drafts are optional speed — not a requirement to stay visible.

A cleanup checklist you can run in one sitting

Use this as a monthly control pass (the single list — no second rhythm to track):

StepActionWhy
1Collected info → review source + dateSee what outreach recorded
2Delete bad rowsClear Google’s collected records
3Edit live hours/services/attributesDelete alone does not fix the listing
4Train phone deskStop accidental “yes” to services you do not offer
5Scan public Maps/Search cardCustomer view is the ground truth
6If eligible: Gemini drafts for reviews — you send/postDraft ≠ publish without a read
7Advanced settings: confirm outreach toggles match your risk comfortOpt out if calls disrupt operations

What this is not

  • Not a claim that cleaning Collected info raises rankings by a fixed amount — sources do not support inventing that.
  • Not available everywhere yet — Help’s select-region language applies.
  • Not permission to ignore classic spam/fraud calls that ask for money (Help: Google will not ask for payment or passwords).
  • Not legal advice about privacy regimes; if you operate under specific local rules, ask a qualified advisor.

Bottom line

Google already collected business details through automated conversations. Collected info makes that trail visible and deletable for eligible profiles — with the critical reminder that delete cleans the ledger, not automatically the live fields. Pair that with a hard look at who answers the verified phone, and treat Gemini review drafts (where available) as a writing aid with a human on publish. That is how local owners keep control without falling behind the tools peers already open each month.
